1. Hello from an internet stranger!

    yosamanthrax:

I will probably send friend requests to everyone in a week when I get over my paranoia.

It’s worth noting that everything you say in tumblr is public, unless you specify otherwise (and even in private posts, if someone gets hold of the URL when they’re not meant to, they can access the information). And people *do* find what you write: My most recent example was when I mentioned in passing on twitter that I’d melted a kettle and I was having friends I hadn’t spoken to in years stop me on the street and ask about it.

If you want a more comprehensive blogging solution that allows for more security granularity with posts, there are other solutions, which I can discuss if you’re interested. I moved from one of those to tumblr because I didn’t want to hide my ramblings to anyone anymore, and the other benefits were not good enough in comparison to the ease of using tumblr.

Right, back to work for me!

  2. Murphy’s Law

Any potential followers I may have gained from this post I’ve probably lost due to my Formula 1 rambling this weekend.

I usually post pretty stuff, promise! Have a look here

  3. Well, I just used this, and the site asked for a link to the site if you found the link useful, so here it is.

A robots.txt file is something you put on your website if you don’t want search engine crawlers to go through the contents of something on your site. You could exclude everything, or just certain folders (maybe yoursite.com/temp), and you can say which bots you do/don’t want to index your site too.

If you want to learn more about this, go here

I had a slight shock when googling my name and finding a uni presentation that I’m not particularly proud of (Career Management Studies, anyone? Bleh.)

  4. Does anyone know how to report tumblr bugs?

    EDIT: Found it! http://tumblrbugs.tumblr.com/submit

I just tried to “pre-date” an old post, and I can’t get the month clickable in the archive.

    See: http://leymoo.com/uploads/calendar.png

    real link is: http://blog.leymoo.com/archive/2007/11

There’s also a pre-dated post that I’ve now deleted that wont disappear from the archive.

Had  a search about on the help page and can’t find anything.

  5. Boring site news

After finally giving up on Serendipity, I’m now migrating over to tumblr properly. I just  need to work out a way of importing my posts (there’s about 50 of them, so not a horrendous a task as some, but still annoying). My file hosting will now be done via straightforward SFTP transfer, but I may install something nice for that at some point.

This now means I’m at http://blog.leymoo.com rather than http://leymoo.tumblr.com. This’ll take up to 72 hours to start working for everyone.

I’ve also created a separate site for professional use: those that would like a passionate chemistry geek and can pay, let me know and I’ll forward it on to you!

Edit: just going through my archives now… A lot of this could be reposted as “now” content, frankly: you guys may even find it interesting! So going to do that.
